Status Update

I'm pleased to announce that Black Coven is complete. I'll be preparing it for publication and doing some final proofreading over the next few days, and I expect the book will be on sale before the end of the week.

  2. Very nice. Now I get to do another late night of reading and suffer the next day at work!

  3. Is the 'Black' in black coven referring to the color or Daniels name? If I was going to have my own coven, I'd name it after myself as well.

    1. In the book cerise refers to herself as cerise Black so it's the name

    2. possibly dual meanings, possible coincidence. Reference the chapter where the coven is established. Cerise calls for it to become a "black coven" and her hope that it would be the last of the black covens. This possibly means that this coven is differentiated from others in that its purpose is to kill their enemies.

  12. Think you can toss us another chapter teaser?:)

    1. Probably makes no sense this close to kicking the finished product out the door. If it had taken longer for some reason we might have seen another.

    2. It actually makes no sense not to. He has only released about a chapter and a half of teasers out of a 24 chapter book. Amazon will have at least that much as part of the free sample you can download, so it's not as if he's giving away anything for free. Plus, it shows us love!

That's exactly why it makes no sense. The purpose of teasers is to either get readers interested in the book or keep them interested in it.

We (here) are already interested. Those new to the series will be able to look into the book directly at Amazon to see whether it is their cup of tea or not in less than a week.

The only reason to put another Teaser out _this_ late in the game would be people who:

      - bothered to look up the author's blog
      - read 7500 words of the book spread over three different posts
      - are still on the fence on whether to buy.
      - would rather say "Well i guess not." than wait five days and
click on 'inside the book' to read more than another half-chapter
      to make up their minds.

Lets face it the number of folks who fall into that sub-category will be negligible going none.

      > Plus, it shows us love!

Ain't no love in this world, hoss, only cold cash interests.

Seriously though, a week or two ago another teaser would have been welcome, but now I'd rather he spend the time it would take to put one up, even if it's just a minute, finishing his final polish instead.

  13. Can you open a pre-order page so we can just buy it now and have it as soon as it's released?

    1. That would just delay things. The pre-order requires a copy of the book 10 days prior to release. Release is in less than 10 days.

  15. I'm just wondering if it takes a few hours after upload for a book to show up on Amazon US what "a lot longer" means for the international Amazon sites. A few more hours? A day? A week? Several weeks?

    1. Hey Grimmelhausen,
from you name I infer you are german.
You know you can switch your accounts to other Amazon sites (not sure if its all), but you can do it from the German one buy something and back relativly fast if you know how. What you need is a credit card though :)

Go to you Account -> Digital Content/Manage Content and Devices -> Settings -> Country Settings/Change -> Click "here" http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/hn51-s-04a7.jpg -> Click "Learn about transfering your Kindle account to Amazon.com" -> Confrim http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/hn51-r-be21.jpg

And here you go. To switch back, use the same way, its just says "Learn about transfering your Kindle account to Amazon.de"

    2. Thanks for the tip Jirun, it's appreciated. However i probably won't need a workaround after all.

I have made a crosscheck for various other authors' books that are in my kindle library and both Amazon (US) and Amazon (Germany) show the same days as publication date. If there's a delay I' don't think it'll be more than a few hours after you guys(*). We'll see i guess.

    3. No sweat, actually I am also German. XD I did need this to get to books that were not transfered in the past. But as you noticed, most of the books that come out recently, do pop up in the DE store almost at the same time.

Another book came out today, and it did take roughly 12 hours to transfer from Amazon US to Amazon DE.

  16. So everyone already praised you lol so I'm not going to be a broken record I just wanna know when the release date I Really want to read ASAP....due to the fact you are an amazing author but also a smart business man it was very kind of you to put three teasers to get readers like more interested in your sequel.

  17. Excellent. Between this and the Avengers movie, I know where my weekend is going.

  18. Okay this maybe a stupid question, but in the US does 'end of the week' mean friday or sunday?

I can see it go either way though on my side of the pond it would typically mean the former (i.e. end of the work week).

    3. In business/celebration event (We will have drinks now that the week is done) - is Friday afternoon. For a due date, it can mean 5pm Friday or to some people before 8am Monday.

In casual communication, it typically means Friday / Saturday, but a few will include Sunday.

  28. I got darn lucky, just read Fimbulwinter for the first time on monday. Nice to get a sequel this quick.

  29. Finished Black Coven. Like it. Will you be doing a post for errors we find like you did for Fimbulwinter?

  30. I just looked at amazon, and Black coven is ranked 4th in epic fantasy. Right behind George RR Martin.

    Loved black coven BTW...
    So Ummm...
When do you think book 3 will be released???
Come on you know that your thinking it to, I just asked.

  31. It was a good read. Not constructed as well as the first book, but still a very good read.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So.... How about those book 3 teasers?

Very good book though, I really enjoyed it. I do have to say that I was disappointed with Avilla as a character in this one. In Fimbulwinter I really enjoyed what I considered to be the three main characters, and while Daniel and Cerise were still great in this, Avilla seemed to fall a bit flat. Still a 5/5 from me on the amazon reviews though.

  33. Read it and re read it.
As good as i had expected but feel could had been even better.
I only request that you release the third bok soon (i know full well how absurd my request is for a writer) , cant wait for the sequel.
Thanks for the awesome work william

  34. thanks for the book. I loved it. Can't wait for book 3. Would like to see daniel use his magic on animal. Like use it on sheep to make its wool grow faster or bigger pigs. Offensive magic for Elin could be high pressure water cutter.

  35. Very enjoyable although it feels a little rushed. There's at least a typo (?) in chapter 10 that said Vinland instead of Varmland (although I like Vinland than Varmland). Is there any map that could clarify Daniel's strategic position, like maybe that Kazolin comparable with Hamburg in our world? There's tons of questions (Why the Aesir still not popping around Daniel, What happened to the Vanir pantheon),speculations (Interaction between nations/kingdoms and their pantheon, Magic system), and potential in these series, I hope Daniel Black series enjoy success and continuous release.

  36. Bit of a technical issue with the bullets in that they don't work like that. Lead is soft but very dense. The reason lead is used in bullets is because it has a lot of mass per volume which increases the kinetic energy load ( Ek=1/2mv^2 ) and it is more abundant than gold, iridium, and the few other metals denser. Bullets are jacketed in steel because that prevents the lead from deforming in flight and under the high acceleration of the chamber and barrel of a firearm. Simply put: wrapping an iron core in lead is bad and any tests would prove that.

  37. I have enjoyed both books in the series.
I am looking forward to the next book.
I think the concept, world construction, and characters are strong enough to stand on their own.
I find the graphic sex to be an unnecessary distraction. I just skip over it.

  38. I just discovered the series last week, they are the first books since the Harry Potter series that I stayed up all night reading because I just couldn't put them down. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
